How do you explain? How do explain the tiny intricate details that God handles for you to someone who believes in God, but puts their faith in coincidence or better...science! Now, I'm not saying that God does not work through science or that people who are scientific can't believe in the acts of God. What I am saying is how do explain things like…we live in a very simple house. It's a nice way of saying we don't have a washer or dryer and so cleaning our clothes is a very "handy" thing, if you get my drift! In any case the climate here the last couple days has been really cool and overcast, not good weather for drying clothes. This morning I awoke and I knew we needed to clean some clothes for the days coming events. When I was in the patio, out-back of the house the sky was overcast and had only one or two pinholes of sky showing. I began to wash and as I did I began to pray and I asked the Lord for sunshine, cause I needed dry clothes for this afternoon. By the time I began to hang-up my shirts, there were patches of blue with the sun beaming through, by the time I had finished "our shorts"…my wife doesn't play FUTBOL…there were only a few patches of clouds. Now, if you know tropical weather in the mountains the clouds can stay for days; there is no telling when a break might come! Does God answer small requests…I would say certainly!
Or, how would you explain to someone sitting on a bench that I followed God's call for us to move here, and that after we had been here for more than two or three weeks I began to question God if I had heard his voice correctly. I did not question God on His ability, but on mine! We were lying in bed and I began to pray…now at this time we needed to turn the light bulb in its socket for our room to be dark. As per the norm, I rotated the bulb and the light went out, we went to bed and had spent sometime in bed. I asked the Lord, "God, I need to know that I've gotten out of the boat after your voice, if I'm following your will correctly can you please turn the light on?" I finished my prayer and then closed my eyes…I breadth, looked at my wife, gave a sigh and closed my eyes…I think it was my second breath when then the light came on! I know that if you're sitting on a bench, maybe in a boat, you can find a logical conclusion, a rational explanation!! But how do you explain, it wasn't anything but God!!
How is everyone! I've wanted to write a few blogs for a while now so forgive the sudden posting of whole a bunch. I think the best place to start is arrival. We arrived in Tuxtla Gutierrez with only one suitcase a piece and one contact name and phone number. Malu had met the daughter on a previous missions trip to Chiapa two years prior. A trip she felt was very unfruitful...little was she aware of God's provision for the future. Well, the girl's father turned out to be a traveling salesman for a distributor in Tutxla and his are included San Cristobal. So, the following day we caught a ride with him into San Cristobal and with the help of his wife began to search for a place to stay. We spent the day looking, but found nothing in our price range or in a part of the city where we'd like to live. Finally, near the end of the day we were looking in a neighborhood for another place and stopped to ask directions. The girl who answered the door wasn't aware of where the house was or who the person was we were looking for, but her aunt had a house she rented. So, we walked the path back to her aunt's house to see what kind of place she had. The lady, Columba and her husband Bucho, rented a little house on the other side of town in an older, but very quiet neighborhood. Oddly enough, the girl who had rented the place suddenly decided she didn't want to rent it any more, only two days prior to us arriving. The price we pay for our house is exactly what I quoted Mr. Gutierrez (business man from Tuxtla) that morning on what we could afford. As you can see, it's not extravagant...but it's home!
